About Caterham Pumas YFC

History

Caterham Pumas were founded in July 1998 from an after school club. From a single team of mixed ages we embarked on our first season. Over the next two seasons we grew to an impressive ten teams playing in two leagues from under 8’s upwards. From day one, we have always been a strong advocate of mini soccer and concentrated on this with all the teams starting at this level.  Constant development, along with summer training and open days  encourage all those who want to play to do so.

We currently have one under 7’s team and field both A and B teams for the under 8’s, 9’s 10’s and 11’s. With the number of players increasing all the time. We have approximately 175 registered players.

With the Surrey Football Association, we have worked hard to secure our own ground and commit ourselves to a long term future for the children of Caterham and the club.
 

Training & Development
Caterham Pumas recognise the need to offer the best possible training. To this end we first ensured that all the managers become qualified in order to offer the best possible coaching.

We adopted a club constitution with a code of conduct for players, coaches and supporters along with anti discrimination, equal opportunities and most importantly a Child Protection Policy. At the same time as we embarked on this training the F.A. introduced the Charter Standard Award scheme. The club embraced this, and at the end of 2001 we were awarded the Charter Standard Development Award. This shows the commitment we placed on training our managers. In December 2002 we were one of the first clubs in England to be awarded the Charter Standard Community Award. This is the pinnacle of the scheme. We were delighted to gain this award as it recognises the work we are doing within the local community and shows the need to consolidate on our success. We are now looking at ways that we can help school leavers in learning how to teach and train sport to National Coaching Standards.
