Welcome to the home of the Caterham Pumas Football Club

History

Caterham Pumas were founded in July 1998 from an after school club. From a single team of mixed ages we embarked on our first season. Over the next two seasons we grew to an impressive ten teams playing in two leagues from under 8’s upwards. From day one, we have always been a strong advocate of mini soccer and concentrated on this with all the teams starting at this level. Constant development, along with summer training and open days encourage all those who want to play to do so.

We currently have teams at under 7’s, 8s, 9’s 10’s, 11’s, 12's, 13s, 14s, 15s, 16s, and 17's With the number of players increasing all the time. We have approximately 200 registered players. We also have two Adult teams who play in the Redhill & District League.

With the Surrey Football Association, we have worked hard to secure our own ground and commit ourselves to a long term future for the children of Caterham and the club. We are looking to start up a Girls team for the 2012/2013 season and we are also committed to providing soccer for pre school ages and run a soccer centre on Sundays mornings.

Caterham Pumas are also looking at ways to provide football for all and have a coach who has completed a course on coaching disabled footballers we will be looking to start a team to complete in the Surrey disability league tournaments.

2011/2012 has seen a number of our youth players join professional football club academies which shows the commitment the coaches have in providing the best possible start for grassroot players.

Training & Development

We adopted a club constitution with a code of conduct for players, coaches and supporters along with anti discrimination, equal opportunities and most importantly a Child Protection Policy at  the same time as we embarked on this the F.A. introduced the Charter Standard Award scheme. The club embraced this, and at the end of 2001 we were awarded the Charter Standard Development Award. This shows a clear commitment we placed on training our managers.

In December 2002 we were one of the first clubs in England to be awarded the Charter Standard Community Award. This is the pinnacle of the scheme. We were delighted to gain this award as it recognises the work we are doing within the local community and shows the need to consolidate on our success. We are now looking at ways that we can help school leavers in learning how to teach and train sport to National Coaching Standards.

Caterham Pumas are always expanding and we are liaising with two Professional Premiership club to bring their foundation coaches to our club as we recognise the need to offer the best possible training. To this end we first ensured that all the managers become qualified in order to provide the best possible coaching for our players.

In 2011 Caterham Pumas built a club house which will be used for club events and community events. Also in April 2012 we are holding our first FA Level One course for our coaches at the club which we have organised with Surrey FA

We pride ourselves on being a community club. Caterham Pumas wants to build ourselves into a club for everyone so what ever your ability contact the club. With the help of the Caterham Barracks Community Trust, Caterham Pumas wants to be a leader in grassroot Football.

Caterham Pumas are working towards regaining our Charter Standard Development Club Award which due to the previous management we lost. This is a transitional period for the club under a committee who are committed to doing the best for all at the club.

Caterham Pumas are always looking to improve the club and to develop our coaches so the players get the best possible start in playing the game we all love.
